As Test Automation Engineers at Delta Fiber, we had the pleasure of being part of the IPTV project. Our focus was on strengthening test automation within this project.
The challenge
Within Delta Fiber’s growing IPTV project, the focus was on testing increasing functionality. Manual testing was time intensive and limited the efficiency of the development process. This is where we Test Automation Engineers came in. Our goal was to implement and optimize test automation to make tests faster, more accurate and more comprehensive.
Automation of mobile applications
We began by automating test cases for both Android and iOS mobile applications, deploying Appium, a powerful test automation framework. Automating repeatable test scenarios not only resulted in faster feedback for the development team, but also increased test consistency and accuracy. This gave functional testers room to explore new functionalities and complex use cases.
Expansion to AndroidTV
After successfully automating the mobile applications, our focus shifted to automating the AndroidTV application. This move was not only technically challenging, but also promised significant benefits for the project.
The AndroidTV application presented unique challenges, such as navigating with a remote control and dealing with different screen resolutions. With Appium, custom locators and careful scripts, we developed a robust automation solution that effectively addressed these challenges.
Benefits and results
The introduction of test automation within the IPTV project brought significant benefits. Functional testers could now focus on new features and complex use cases, instead of spending time on repetitive manual tests. This resulted in improved software quality and accelerated time-to-market.
In addition, the automation of AndroidTV testing yielded significant efficiency gains. Tests were conducted on a variety of devices and screen sizes, increasing coverage. This reduced the risk of unexpected problems for end users while also saving FTE capacity by reducing the need for manual testing.
Conclusion
Our time as Test Automation Engineers at Delta Fiber’s IPTV project was a wonderful and educational experience. The journey from automating mobile applications to expanding to AndroidTV brought technical challenges and tangible benefits to the project and the team.
